Diet Effects OA

A healthy diet is a great method for treating your knee osteoarthritis.  Reduce pain and increase function in your arthritic knees by eating right.  The stress on our knees is increased by 30 to 40 pounds for every ten pounds you are overweight.  Studies prove weight loss will ease the pain of knee osteoarthritis.  Losing weight will reduce your pain and keep your OA from getting worse.

Eat foods with fiber and drink plenty of water.  Foods with Vitamin D, Vitamin C Vitamin E, Selenium, Zinc, and Copper can all help.  Many of the drugs used to treat the pain associated with OA cause constipation.  The fiber and fluids help here.  The antioxidants help reduce pain caused by inflammation.

If you have OA, manager your diet and manage your pain.  So enjoy your 4th of July BBQ – just don’t enjoy it too much.
